WHAT IS "YOG SUTRA?"
Yoga Sutras are the oldest text on yoga. Sutras are an aphorism; a proverb. As the exact date of the origin of Yoga Sutras is not known but it is believed that Yoga Sutras originated prior to 400 CE by Sage Patanjali. It outlines the eight limbs of Yoga. The Yoga Sutras contains 196 sutras & are further divided into 4 chapters. These 4 chapters discuss the aims & practice of Yoga. Yoga Sutras provides us the way of shining our inner self & forgetting about every false identity in the mind. WHY YOGA?
Yoga is considered as the spiritual practice which automatically unites all the parts. To achieve unity, there is a need to do physical & mental exercises. Physical exercise includes yoga postures(asanas) which help in maintaining strength & tone of the body.
It helps us to achieve regular blood flow. Mental exercise includes different kinds of breathing techniques like pranayama which helps in disciplining the mind of the person. The main aim of Yoga is to provide a peaceful & healthy life.
Sutras are the threads that help in providing purposeful life. There are different beliefs related to Sutra. The first one is that it is called Sutras, which means that there are multiple threads which when combined together forms complexity. And other beliefs regarding it is that it is being used in the singular form called Sutra. which means there is a complete one thread which flows throughout the process.
